Everybody knows that for one to remain upright they need to be well balanced – it’s just a fact of life. Nobody goes around with half a helmet on or a bag of cement on one shoulder.
I believe that it’s the same with life. An athlete who wants to break a world record one day will not listen to songs and read newspaper articles of how it can’t be done, because that is the opposite of what they believe. In our walk with God – we cannot expect to stay rooted in Christ when we are constantly feeding our hearts and minds with things that go against his word. Now, I’m not saying that everywhere u look must be Jesus, everywhere u go must be some sort of Christian event and every song you listen to must be Gospel music, I’m just saying that we need to get the balance right in order to stay upright and not fall off our path in our walk with God.
So today I encourage you to analyse your media – is every song secular? Is every book secular? If so, intend to make some God orientated additions to your media collection so that you are feeding your soul with that good stuff and keeping your mind and thinking in line with God’s word and God’s heart so you can achieve your potential in Him.
This leads me onto our golden text for todays #MondayMessage: 2 Peter 3:17 (NIV)
Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position.
Don’t feed your hearts and minds with this world’s way of thinking, feed yourself on God’s word and prayer. Get the Balance right.
Like Phillipians 4:8 says feed your hearts and minds on pure, just, lovely… things and think upon these things.
Philippians 4:8 (ESV):
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Okay.. so now what?
Now in school we learn subjects for years and years and one day towards the end of our school days we are tested. And sadly, hardly ever do we come across a test that gives you the opportunity to spell a word out or say a straight textbook answer, this is because the examiner is always trying to get us to ‘apply our knowledge’. I believe it is the same with Life, life may throw challenges or temptations at you but you can’t expect God to show up there in the flesh and beat your battle for you, you have to – in that moment – remember all that God has put in your heart and apply faith in God to get you through the test.
